The European gathering where outdoor sports, recreation, policy, research and practice meet to shape the future of outdoor life.

Euro’Meet is the largest European conference dedicated to outdoor sports and outdoor recreation. Organised by the European Network of Outdoor Sports and Recreation, ENOS, it brings together the people and organisations who shape outdoor life across Europe: public authorities, outdoor organisations, researchers, educators, land managers, practitioners, policy-makers, innovators and representatives of the outdoor economy.

Euro’Meet is not only a conference about outdoor activities. It is a strategic European meeting place for everyone working with the future of outdoor sports and recreation. It creates a space where different countries, professional cultures and governance models can meet, compare approaches and build shared directions.

Outdoor sports and recreation now sit at the crossroads of many major European challenges: public health, access to nature, social inclusion, education, territorial development, sustainable tourism, climate adaptation, biodiversity, land use and environmental stewardship. These issues cannot be addressed by one sector alone. Euro’Meet exists to connect the people who usually work in parallel fields and to help them think, learn and act together.

Every two years, Euro’Meet is hosted by a European territory that opens its landscapes, projects and ways of organising outdoor life. The host region becomes more than a venue. It becomes a living learning space where ideas can be tested against real places, local cultures, public policies and field experience.

Why Euro’Meet matters

Euro’Meet offers a unique combination of European perspective, local experience and cross-sector dialogue. It connects high-level strategic conversations with practical knowledge from the field. Participants come to understand European trends, discover different national and regional models, share methods, strengthen partnerships and contribute to a collective vision for outdoor sports and recreation in Europe.

The conference is built around dialogue rather than one-way delivery. Plenary sessions, workshops, field visits and informal exchanges are all designed to support learning, trust and cooperation. Euro’Meet is a place where ideas circulate between research, policy and practice, and where participants leave with new relationships, new perspectives and concrete inspiration for their own work.

Euro’Meet 2026 in Sundsvall

The 2026 edition of Euro’Meet will take place from 8 to 10 September 2026 in Sundsvall, Sweden, hosted by Svenskt Friluftsliv together with Sundsvall Municipality, the County of Västernorrland, Mid Sweden University and ENOS. The current host page already presents this partnership and the ambition to bring together outdoor organisations, universities and public authorities around sustainable, inclusive and accessible outdoor sports and friluftsliv.

This edition is especially meaningful because it takes place in a Nordic context shaped by friluftsliv, everyday outdoor culture and the principle of access to nature. Sundsvall offers a powerful setting to explore how outdoor sports and recreation are embedded in society, public policy, landscapes and shared responsibility.

Under the theme “A shared Relationship with nature”, Euro’Meet 2026 will explore three key dimensions of the future of outdoor sports and recreation:

This theme reflects one of the central questions facing outdoor sports and recreation in Europe today: how can we strengthen access to nature, inclusion, community and environmental responsibility at a time when outdoor life is becoming increasingly important for public health, territorial development, education, sustainability and social cohesion?

The theme will be explored through three strategic dimensions: togetherness, access and accessibility, and inclusion and diversity. These dimensions form the backbone of the conference and will guide the discussions between policy-makers, researchers, outdoor organisations, land managers, educators, practitioners and local communities.

Euro’Meet is designed for people with responsibility: those who make decisions, manage places, train professionals, lead organisations, develop policies, produce knowledge, support communities, design outdoor experiences or create solutions for the outdoor ecosystem.

Partners and stakeholders

Fritidsbanken - lowering the tresholds to outdoor sports and nature

Fritidsbanken is a non-profit lending library for sports and outdoor equipment in Sweden giving donated equipment a second life. It allows people of all ages to borrow items such as skis, bicycles, ice skates and camping gear free of charge. Fritidsbanken is available in more than 130 places in Sweden and in nearly half of the Municipalities (the number is growing fast). Together the Fritidsbanken libraries lend out more than 2 million items every year. The aim is to make sports and recreational activities accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, while also promoting reuse and sustainability.

Svenskt Friluftsliv / Swedish Association of Outdoor Organisations

Svenskt Friluftsliv is the national umbrella organisation for 27 non-profit outdoor organisations in Sweden. With approximately 7,000 clubs and 2 million memberships, it represents a broad range of non-profit organisations that promote outdoor activities and access to nature for people of all ages. Svenskt Friluftsliv acts as a spokesperson to the government, parliament, and authorities on issues related to outdoor activities, public access to nature, sustainable recreation and civic development. During the conference, most staff at Svenskt Friluftsliv will be at Södra Berget to arrange Euro’Meet but also to present our organisation and our work.

Mid-Sweden University

Mid Sweden University is a public university with campuses in Sundsvall and Östersund. It offers a wide range of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes in fields such as engineering, business, health sciences, education social sciences and the humanities. The university is known for its strong emphasis on research, innovation and close collaboration with industry, the public sector, and local communities. Mid-Sweden university is a leading university in Sweden when it comes to research and higher education in the fields of sport, outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism. During the conference, you will have plenty of opportunities to meet up with professor Peter Fredman, based at Mid Sweden University, and other researchers.

Sundsvall Municipality

The Outdoor Recreation Unit of the Municipality of Sundsvall is responsible for developing, managing and promoting outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors in Sundsvall. The unit maintains trails, recreation areas, shelters, beaches, and other outdoor facilities. One such recreation area is at Södra Berget where Euro’Meet takes place. The unit collaborates with local associations, schools, government agencies and other partners to create accessible, sustainable and inclusive outdoor environments. One of the most important ”spiders in the web” during Euro’Meet will be Anders Erlandsson, outdoor strategist from the Municipality of Sundsvall.

County Administrative Board, Västernorrland

The Outdoor Recreation Unit is part of County Administrative Board of Västernorrland. The unit contributes to public health, sustainable regional development and the long-term preservation of valuable natural landscapes in Västernorrland County. The outdoor strategist of the outdoor unit are well-known to many of you attending the Euro’Meet conference and from many ENOS-projects: Jean Esselström.
